The fabulous Swiss Family Treehouse is one of the original Adventureland attractions. What makes it different
is that it is not a ride but a self- paced walking tour. It is a magnificent reproduction of the tree
house created for the Disney
1960 movieSwiss Family Robinson.
This imposing 60' high man made structure was built to resemble a banyan tree. It's concrete
roots
extend 42' into the ground and its 1,400 branches hold over 300,000 polyethylene leaves. The
Spanish moss draping the branches is, however, the real thing.
To fully appreciate the treehouse, it helps to have seen the movie on which this classic
Adventureland attraction is based. It tells the story of a family (the
Robinsons) who are shipwrecked and use everything they can find from the wreck of their ship
to build a treehouse with all the comforts of a 19th century manor house.
This huge tree house
has everything including bedrooms, a
study, kitchen ,bathroom, and much more. The plumbing system is particularly ingenious. Even if
you haven't seen the movie you will be impressed with the ingenuity and imagination that went
into this ultimate treehouse .
My Verdict:
This Classic Adventureland attraction is well worth a look but if you are pressed for
time give it a miss and save it for another visit. The Swiss Family Tree house deserves to be
lingered over. Also keep in mind this tree is 60' high and requires climbing 116 steps.
Caution! climbing these steps and walking is the only way you can access the treehouse.
TIPS:
If you rent the movie before visiting Disney World you will enjoy exploring the Robinsons
Tree House so much more.
If there is a crowd, come back later. It is no fun exploring a
crowded tree!
The top of the tree gives a birds eye view of other Adventureland attractions such as the Jungle Cruise.
