MGM Studios The Magic Of The Movies

Disney MGM Studios: Larger than the Magic Kingdom and smaller than Epcot. MGM celebrates the movies, in particular, Hollywood of the 1930s and 1940s.

Think of MGM as a sort of grown-up Magic Kingdom. While there is plenty to entertain the kids here, many of the attractions at this park were definately designed to appeal to more adult tastes.

Although at 157 acres MGM Studios is slightly larger than The Magic Kingdom it only contains about half the number of attractions ( 20). It is a little trickier to navigate because of the way the park is laid out but can be seen in one day, so long as the crowds are not to heavy.

MGM is a mix of thrill rides and shows. The fireworks laser water show called Fantasmic is spectacular!It Ranks alongside Epcot's Illuminations as the best show of its kind to be seen anywhere. Be sure to get to the outdoor theater early as seats disappear fast!

MGM Studios were designed to make you feel that you have stepped back in time to the golden era of Hollywood movie making (or at least how we would like to believe it was!) It is also a working movie and t.v. production studio.

The main production areas are restricted access and can be viewed only by tour, a mix of a tram ride and walking.

The main attractions are arranged in groups off the main streets. These are:

Hollywood Boulevard

Echo Lake

Streets of America

Commissary Lane

Mickey Avenue

Animation Courtyard

Sunset Boulevard

On entering the park you will find yourself on Hollywood Boulevard. This will lead to the giant Mickey Sorcerers hat. All the other streets lead off from here.

If you can't wait to experience the Tower of Terror or the Rock and Roller Coaster , turn to the right and follow the crowds to Sunset Boulevard.

If you are like my family and prefer a more leisurely start to your day, turn to the left toward Echo Lake where Star Tours and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular can be found.

Whichever way you go, prepare yourselves for fun. MGM Studios is a park like no other- a true fantasy world for young and old!
