Finding Hotel Deals And What You Should Know Before Booking Hotel Rooms

Hotels Combined - search all hotel reservation sites at once!

How do you find hotel rooms at affordable prices? Good question. There are many web sites that claim to have the best deals but how do you know which ones really do? The honest answer is you don't and neither does anyone else! No single website has the best deals 100% of the time. It takes time and a lot of research to find the real bargains. That having been said, there are ways to ease the tedium of searching site after site, and find the best deals with a minimum of effort.

On this page, I have provided links to five very different travel web sites.  Hotelopia   Priceline.com
United Vacations   Kayak.com and  ebay

By checking with one or more you will be able to find all the information you will ever need to make an informed decision before booking hotel rooms, airfare, cruises, or car rentals, without wasting your time chasing all over the web. I make no claims for these sites other than I use them myself to research and book airfares, hotel rooms, cruises, etc and have found them to be excellent and consistent sources of great travel deals. You will find descriptions of each on this page

If you are looking for a really cheap way to vacation and are prepared to give up a half day of your time check ebay for heavily discounted vacation packages which include a mandatory timeshare presentation. These are especially valuable if you are going to to Disney World or Orlando as they will generally include theme park tickets as well as accommodations.

They are terrific deals you won't find the kind of prices they offer anywhere else. Your only obligation is to attend a two to three hour sales presentation. If you are not interested in buying a timeshare property don't worry, there is absolutely no way they can make you buy, though obviously they will try hard to convince you that you should. They will usually make you up to three offers each a little cheaper than the one before, all you have to do is politely keep saying no. Having been a timeshare salesman I can tell you that more people say no than yes. If you don't mind sitting through a three to four hour sales pitch ( they will tell you 60 to 90 minutes but it is always longer), or have an interest in buying a timeshare, they are an excellent way to take a Disney World vacation at very little cost.click here to check for deals on ebay

Also, on this page you will find important information on what you should know before booking hotel rooms, either online or by phone in the U.S. As a concierge at a major Florida beach hotel, I was amazed by the amount of guests who arrived to check in with no idea of what type of room they had booked or how many guests a room would sleep. This can be a major problem and has ruined many a vacation. Later on this page you will find the questions you should ask and things you should know before booking any hotel room:

Useful Travel Sites

Hotelopia

This is the best website I have found for finding. Hotelopia is a European based company with offices in the USA as well as several other countries. They have a very extensive world wide inventory of hotel rooms. If you are from the US, it may occasionally be necessary when you enter the Hotelopia site to change the currency from UK Pounds to US Dollars. The buttons to do this will be on the top right of the page.

Hotelopia has hotel rooms in all price ranges and categories so whether you are looking for a luxury resort or just a basic room you will find it here and at an unbeatable price. They also have some of the best rates available for Disney Resort Hotels.

Hotelopia only sell hotel rooms and do an exceptional job at it. One nice feature is they provide the total price up front, including all taxes so you don't get any nasty surprises when the time comes to check out. In my opinion, Hotelopia should definitely be number 1 on your list when searching for the best hotel room rates.

Kayak.com

I have found Kayak.com to be a particularly valuable booking tool as it compares hundreds of different sites to come up with the lowest possible prices for airfares, hotel rooms, and car rentals. When you find a deal you like, Kayak transfers you to the airline or travel company website and you buy directly from them. This is especially useful when looking for cheap airfares.Kayak finds in minutes information that would otherwise take hours to obtain,It saves both time and money. click here to go to kayak.com

ebay

Get tickets for premium and sold-out events
Don't overlook ebay when searching for discount accomodations. I have found ebay to be a fabulous source of bargains. While you won't find many hotel rooms, you will find great deals on condominiums and private houses. It is a little known fact that if you sign up for ebay (signing up is free) and bid on timeshare rentals you will be able to rent Luxury condos and houses for less than the price of many standard hotel rooms. If you have a family of five or more or are traveling with friends and relatives, renting a timeshare or house may be your best bet.

Having been a timeshare salesman, I know that many owners buy multiple properties and have to pay an annual maintenance fee of several hundred dollars on each one. They will rent out properties that they are not using through ebay to cover their expenses and make a small profit, which means that you can get bargains. And no, you won't have to attend a sales presentation (unless you want to) if you rent one.

I recently used ebay to bid on a two bedroom, two bathroom, 1200sq ft luxury condo that slept up to eight people at Fairfields Bonnet Creek Resort (right next door to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort). It came with a full kitchen, 3 tv's, a washer, dryer, and my wife's personal favorite a whirlpool tub in the master bedroom. It cost me $275 for three nights.(low season) that's less than the price of one night at most Disney deluxe hotels. Not only did I save a bundle on accommodations but I saved a small fortune on food as we had access to a fully equipped kitchen and we could cook anything at anytime we wanted.

Even if all you do is cook supermarket pizzas, microwave frozen dinners, pop popcorn, and have toast, coffee, and cereal for breakfast, you will save a small fortune on food. We found having a full size fridge freezer to be particularly useful. With the money you save, you can afford to indulge yourself at some of those expensive restaurants you might otherwise not visit. Plus you have space and privacy that even the most expensive hotel rooms can't provide. Bidding on ebay has enabled me to stay in places I previously could only dream about.

Prices vary by season with the summer and major holidays being the most expensive times.click here to check for deals on ebay

TIPS FOR BIDDING ON EBAY

I have made it a practice to only bid if the owner has a feedback rating of 99% or higher. These people have a proven track record with ebay and jealously guard their reputations. I have never had any problems when using this rule.

Avoid any auction that offers theme park tickets along with accommodations at ridiculously low prices, they are usually solicitations for timeshare companies and will require you to attend a sales presentation. Unless you are interested in buying a timeshare property and don't mind listening to sales presentations stay away!!. I only deal directly with owners.

What You Should Know And Questions To Ask Before Booking Hotel Rooms

How Many Guests Will A Room Sleep

When booking hotel rooms be aware that the average room holds a maximum of four people. Some hotels have rooms that will sleep five. Others will provide a portable bed on request for an additional charge.

If you have five or more in your party, always ask what the rule is. If the policy is four people only, you will need two rooms and that cheap room may not seem so much of a bargain anymore.

If there are more than two adults per room many, but not all, hotels charge additional fees for each extra adult. For example, we often travel with my mother-in-law and generally get charged an additional $5 to $15 per night over the quoted rate. This applies even if the hotel room will sleep five.

The quoted rate unless specified otherwise, is for two adults and two or more children.

Are There Any Hidden Charges

Be aware of additional charges (many hotels have them). These include things like resort fees, parking charges, etc and keep in mind that the quoted prices for rooms usually do not include taxes.

What You Should Do When Booking Rooms On The Web

Many times I have been asked, Is it safe to book hotel rooms on the internet? My answer is a definate yes, as long as you follow the following rule.

When you book hotel rooms through the internet, allow a few hours (or days) and then call the hotel directly and confirm your reservation.

Why should you do this? Because when booking on the web generally speaking, nothing is guaranteed other than the fact that you have a confirmed room reservation. Everything else is treated as a request and may or may not be granted on arrival.

Luggage OnLine

This includes requests like smoking or non smoking rooms, type of view, which floor the room is on, etc. In my time as a hotel concierge, I encountered many an irate family whose vacation was ruined because their room was by a noisy elevator shaft with a view of the hotel parking lot.

This can be avoided by making a quick call to the hotel where you intend to stay. They will be able to tell you exactly which room type you will be staying in and where possible, will try to honor your requests.

Never assume anything! Always call and confirm!!

Always Ask For Discounts

When calling for hotel room reservations (especially Disney), always ask what discounts may be available. This information is not usually given unless specifically asked for. Hotels very often have different price structures for the same room (much like the airlines do with airfares).

Even if you have a discount coupon, it is still worth asking about other available special discounts. The reason for this is simple. Discount coupons are applied to the rack rate for the room. (The rack rate is the highest price the hotel expects to be able to charge for a particular room). There may be a special discount price (especially on the internet) which will be cheaper than the rate with the coupon.

Many hotels, especially on the beaches, vary their room rates depending on occupancy. If they are not full they may offer large discounts but only if you ask!

Call The Hotel You Plan TO Stay At Direct

When calling to make or confirm reservations, whenever possible, call the hotel where you will be staying direct. Do not call the central reservation number. The reason for this is that most hotel chains are franchises and central reservation call centers do not have access to special rates and promotions, only available at certain hotels.

Another reason to call direct is local knowledge. A good desk clerk or concierge can offer a wealth of information on the hotel and surrounding area. Never be afraid to ask questions.

Understand Cancellation Policies

Pay close attention to cancellation policies! When hotel rooms are booked at a discount, many hotels apply stiff penalties if you cancel within a certain time period. Be sure you read and understand these policies.

It is a good idea to purchase vacation insurance. You will be covered if anything untoward should happen that cause changes in your plans at short notice. Click Here to compare travel insurance

Cheaper Isn't Always Better

Always remember the old saying "You get what you pay for." If you don't plan on spending much time in the hotel room, quality may not matter and a cheap hotel will be fine.. However, if you will be spending a week or more at the same location, your choice of hotel room will have a big bearing on the overall quality and enjoyment of your vacation.

Spending a little more can get more comfortable and spacious accommodations and some mid-priced hotels such as Embassy Suites will offer such perks as free cooked to order breakfasts and free cocktail parties.
