Are Disney Resorts worth the money? Should I stay on Disneyworld property?

These are probably the two most asked questions when planning a Disney vacation.

As a former concierge who knows a thing or two about the hotel business, my answer would be a resounding yes to both questions, as long as a Disney resort hotel fits your budget and you will be spending the majority of your vacation in or close to the Disneyworld Theme parks!!

In the early days of Disney World, there were only two Disney Hotels (the Contemporary and the Polynesian.) Over the years the number has grown and there are now twenty or more.

Disney Resort Hotels come in all shapes, sizes, themes, and price ranges. Disney categorizes them as the following.

Value Resorts: All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, Pop Century

My Opinion:

The name says it all- Value. The rooms may be small (260 sq ft) but so is the price.

Moderate Resorts: Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans French Quarter, Port Orleans Riverside.

My Opinion:

Comfortable rooms with great amenities at a reasonable price.( Well reasonable by Disney Standards.)

Vacation Club Resorts: Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's Boardwalk Villas, Disney's Old Key West, Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, The Villas at Wilderness Lodge.

My Opinion

If space is what you crave, you will find it in the vacation club resorts. All the comfort and amenities of deluxe resorts with accommodations for 4-12 guests (depending on the size of unit selected.) Very Expensive but given the size, quality, and proximity to all things Disney, worth it.

Fort Wilderness Cabins

Situated in peaceful, rustic surroundings, these cabins, that sleep up to six, have a lot to offer. They are very different to any other accommodations at Disney. If you want to be close to the parks but feel like you are far away this is the place to stay. For details on everything Fort Wilderness has to offer Click Here

Disney Hotels with their elaborate themes, access to numerous transportation and dining options, friendly staff and the feeling of being in the middle of the action are simply unrivaled.

They also offer other advantages that off site hotels can not and do not provide such as guaranteed entry to all parks, even when full. ( Though why anyone would want to spend any amount of time in a park packed to capacity is beyond me!) Extra hours at selected parks, free parking at all themeparks, plus full access to Disney's entire transportation network.
