In 2005, Disney changed the way they sold passes and introduced the Magic Your
Way family of
tickets/passes. At first glance this can look very confusing but with a little guidance you
will be
able to
select the ticket that best suits your needs.
The most important thing to remember when selecting tickets is how
and when they
expire. In the
past, Disney tickets never expired but now Disney offers two choices, the base
ticket which
expires
14 days after its first use, or an upgraded ticket with no expiration date but at an
additional cost.
This can be a major factor and should be considered carefully, especially if you are not
sure
whether you will use all days purchased
or if you intend to return to Disney at a later date.
Common questions are:- What is a base ticket?
- Should I buy a base ticket?
- What is a park hopper ticket/pass and do I need one?
- Will I need the Water Park add-on option?
- What is a no expiration date ticket?
Below is a brief description of the different
types of Disney tickets/ passes
and add-on options. I recommend that you read these descriptions carefully before making any ticket/pass buying decisions. All Disney tickets can be purchased in increments of days from a minimum of 1 to a
maximum of 10.
- Base Disney Ticket
The Base Disney Ticket is valid for entry to a single park each day. This is the cheapest but most
restrictive option. Once
inside a specific park, you may come and go from that park as you please but may not
visit any
other park the same day.For a detailed breakdown of Base Ticket Prices by dayClick Here

- Base Disney Ticket with Park Hopper option
With this Disney ticket you can hop from park to park whenever you want. Although
there is an
additional
charge of $47.93 for this option, I highly recommend it but only if you are going to
purchase a pass
of four
days or longer. The hopper option is very useful if, for instance, you decide to spend the day at
the Magic Kingdom but would like to have dinner or see illuminations at Epcot in the evening.
Another benefit is if one park becomes too crowded you will be able to leave and move on to
another. If your pass is for three days or less the additional $47.93 may not be worth the added
expense. .

- Base Disney Ticket With Water Park Fun And More Options
This allows access to one major park per day plus both water parks, Pleasure Island, and
Disney Quest. This is where the Magic Your Way system really comes into its own. If you
don't
feel
that
you will use the water parks or other options offered, then you buy just the base ticket and you will not have to pay for them.
If you purchase a 1 or 2 day base Disney tickets and add the Water Park Fun and More
option,
you will
have access to one park a day and a total of 2 admissions for use at both of Disney's water
parks, plus Pleasure Island, and Disney Quest. If you have the stamina of Superman you
could
use all these admissions on one day. But for the mere mortals among us, they can be spread out
over several days. The only stipulation being that they must be used within fourteen days of
the
first use of your ticket.
For example, with a one day base ticket and the Water Park Fun and More option, you
could spend a day in the park of your choice followed by a day at
either
Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach, and a day at Disneyquest or a night at Pleasure Island. For about $128.87 (Base Ticket plus
water fun option) you have up to three days of entertainment, all for less than the price of two
days in one of the major parks.
There are of course many
different
combinations. You could, for instance, use both of your admissions visiting the water parks. Just
keep in
mind that each time you visit an attraction you use up an admission. If, for instance, you
visited both
Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach in the same day, you would have used up two admissions
.It
makes
better economic sense to spread your visits over several days rather than using them all at once.
Note: The amount of days you buy on the Base Disney ticket determines the number of
admissions
received.
1 and 2 day tickets receive 2 admissions. 4 day 4 admissions,5 day tickets receive 5 admissions, 6 day
tickets
receive
6 admissions, 7day 7 admissions,8day 8 admissions,9 day 9 admissions,and 10 day tickets receive 10 admissions. Keep in mind the $53.25 charge
you will
pay for the options is a flat fee
regardless of how many days you purchase. The more days you purchase the better the
value.

- Base Disney Ticket No Expiration Date
This is a great add on option if you are going to buy multiple day Disney tickets and
don't know
if you
will use them all in one visit. Also bear in mind that the more days you purchase, the cheaper
the
cost
per day. If you are planning more than one trip to Disney even if it may be several years
before
you return, the no expiration option is well worth the extra charge. It is also protects you from
future price increases. For a detailed breakdown on cost per day Click Here

- Annual Pass
If you plan on making multiple trips to Disney in one year consider buying an annual
pass. Not
only will you save on park admissions, it also gets you access to all kinds of special
discounts
such as free parking, special pass holder discounts on room rates at Disney hotels, discounts on food,
and
more.
Many people consider the $477.12 charge for an annual pass worth the money for the discounts on rooms at Disney hotels
alone. Depending on your length of stay and class of hotel chosen, if you are visiting Disney World when special passholder rates are available the savings on room rates can almost and in some cases will equal the cost of the pass.
Remember only one member of your party needs a pass to get the discounts. There is also a
premium annual pass available which adds on the water parks, Pleasure Island, and Disneyquest.
If you purchase your annual pass while at Disneyworld, the pass will be valid for 366
days from
the date of purchase. If you buy your pass online, by phone, from a Disney store, or any other
authorized outlet, you will receive a voucher which will need to be exchanged for a pass on
arrival
at Disneyworld. The good news is the clock doesn't start running on your one year until the
voucher is exchanged and the pass is activated. There is no expiration date on vouchers. .
