Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad showcases exactly what sets Disney and, in particular, the Magic Kingdom apart from the crowd. It may not be the most thrilling ride (though it certainly has its moments) but the sheer creativity that went into the design and theme of this attraction makes it a true one of a kind experience.

This Roller coaster like ride is set around a mountain during the gold rush. The ride vehicles are designed to look like mine cars and you are a passenger on a runaway train. The sound of the train's wheels on the rickety track and a steam whistle that blows as the train banks into a curve add to the thrill.

What sets this ride apart is not speed or steep drops. It is the authentic looking mountain scenery and the animals and people that inhabit it. Canyons, a cavern full of bats, a flooded mining town, these are just a few of the many eye catching scenarios that whiz past your eyes as you hurtle towards the end of the line!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is not a ride that will scare you. It is fairly tame as coasters go, but it is tremendous fun. This is a coaster that almost anyone can ride, so long as they are at least 40" tall. but it does throw you about a bit .If you have back problems bear that in mind before deciding to ride.

My Verdict:

Great experience! A Magic Kingdom classic fun and exhilarating. One of my favorites!

TIP:

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is right next to Splash Mountain and attracts large crowds all day. Ride as soon as possible after the park opens, during parades, or right before closing time. If you wish to ride any other time check the wait time, if there is a long wait take a fast pass and return at the designated time.

If you have time try riding Big Thunder in the daytime and again at night. The experience is totally different!! I think the ride is a little more thrilling after dark.
